Dublin 'Mela' confirmed

This celebration of Indian culture kicks off next week.

An Indian 'Mela' has been confirmed for Dublin, taking place in the city from August 15 - 19.

'Mela' is a Sanskrit word for large gathering. The Dublin Mela launches on August 15, leading into the premiere of Ek Tha Tiger, the first ever Irish Bollywood movie. Parts of the film were shot around Dublin last year.

An arts exhibition will then be launched at the Buttery in Trinity College on August 16. Here, Unitas will present a collection of Indo-Irish paintings, photographs, jewellery, fabric painting and various art collections.

A traditional Indian Bharatnatyam dance workshop will then take place on August 19 at the Chester Beatty Library. The workshop is free, but is limited to 20 places. See www.cbl.ie.

The grand finale, 'Mela Day' will take place on August 18 in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin. This is a free family outing event which will show case Indian art, sport and culture.
