Two days of groovy goodness set for June bank holiday weekend
May 30 and 31 will see Meeting House Square transformed into a seriously swinging spot for the Down With Jazz festival.
The event - which, with tongue firmly in cheek, harks back to the 1930s, when anti-jazz movements were all the rage - sees six-string legend Louis Stewart (pictured) leading the charge, as well as Isotope, one of Irelands longest running live jazz bands. Contemporary piano trio The CEO Experiment join forces with acclaimed saxophonist and producer Michael Buckley, while the
17-strong Dublin City Jazz Orchestra will be bustin’ it out big-band style on Sunday.
Joe O’ Callaghan’s jazz-fusion trio Electric Freeplay will be grooving under the canopies, as will Tongue Bundle and top prog-rock and contemporary jazz quartet Leo Drezden. There's also a nod to jazz roots with high level rhythms from Africa by renowned djembe and n’goni player Sidiki Dembélé.
Tickets are priced at €12/€15 per night, with early bird passes for the weekend currently on offer for €20.
