The festival celebrates its 10th anniversary as we enter spring.
Started in 2005 as a niche concern in the cultural quarter of the capital city, TradFest Temple Bar is today the country's largest festival for trad music. To celebrate a decade of existence, this edition's line-up is a particularly fine one for fans of folk and roots. The whole thing takes place January 28 to February 1.
Of the headline evening concerts, famed songwriter Donovan plays Dublin Castle on Saturday 31 (tickets priced at €45). It follows an audience with the star, presented by John Kelly, in the House Of Lords the night before.
On Wednesday January 28, our own Hothouse Flowers will grace St. Patrick's Cathedral (tickets priced at €35.99). The same night finds DeBARRA in City Hall.
Mick Flannery should be another memorable gig, taking place in St. Michan's Church on Thursday January 29. Tickets for that one are €25.
That is but scratching the surface of the shows. There will also be free, intimate concerts from The Dublin Legends, Paddy Casey, The Kilkennys, Eleanor McEvoy and Mundy, film screenings, workshops, masterclasses, children's activities and a music trail.
