Director debut at no 2

Director’s upward career trajectory continues with We Thrive On Cities debuting at number two this week on the Irish album chart.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 18 Oct 2006

The recipient of an 8 out of 10 Hot Press review, it sold 3,080 copies compared to The Killers’ Sam’s Town (no. 1/6,128 copies) and Snow Patrol’s Eyes Open (no. 3/2,888 copies).

Talking of Snow Patrol, last week saw Gary and the boys become “the first British guitar band in 13 years” to crack the top five of Billboard’s American Hot 100 singles chart. We’re not entirely sure they’d describe themselves as ‘British’, but ‘Chasing Chars’ being downloaded 660,000 times in the States is most definitely a cause for celebration.

That figure is sure to increase on November 21 when they line-up alongside Beyoncé and Mary J. Blige at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles.

A doff of the HP Newsdesk cap also goes to Daniel O’Donnell whose Until The Next Time album debuted at number 10 last week in Blighty.

He’s now officially the most prolific UK hitmaker of the 21st Century with nine top 20 albums since 2000.
