Des Bishop signing at HMV Grafton St.

The comedian will be meeting fans and signing copies of his new DVD Desfunctional on Saturday 7 November at 1pm.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 05 Nov 2009

HMV Grafton Street manager Gary Roche said, “Des Bishop is one of Ireland’s top comedians and so we are very much looking forward to welcoming him back to the store. This is a great opportunity to meet Des and to get a signed copy of Desfunctional. The DVD is expected to be in a high demand as the perfect stocking filler in the run up to the festive season.”

Desfunctional is Bishop's sixth DVD and releases the same week as the signing. After the success of the award-winning 'In the Name of the Fada', the comedian now shows a more astute side to the world of comedy, questioning what happens when too many people in your life have heard the punchlines and can’t see the joke anymore. Desfunctional takes a look at why people feel uncomfortable when the joke turns personal. It’s a journey through a life of emotional and sexual dysfunction, which hopes to turn the cold giggles of escapism into the warm laughter that comes from getting real on stage.

The Bishop And The Bond

Channelling the grief he has experienced over the long illness and death of his father into comedy helped Des Bishop cope with the loss of a loved one. Now he has written movingly about his dad, a New Yorker who turned his back on showbusiness – having auditioned for the role of James Bond – to support his family. But alongside the affection there is also a deep ambivalence to be found in his memoir.
