Cult icon Daniel Johnston will be playing Vicar St in Dublin as the only Irish date on his upcoming European tour.
Johnston’s career has spanned 20 years during which he’s recorded over 30 albums. But don’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of him. Johnston has stayed constantly in the background of American music, despite the praise of everyone from Kurt Cobain to Tom Waits.
His latest album, Welcome to my World features remastered versions of songs spanning the length of his career. The songs were taken from the 2005 feature-length documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston which was released to great critical acclaim - not least from our own Tara Brady, who awarded it a mghty 5/5.
In addition to his music career, Daniel works as a cartoonist and has had his art shown in galleries in Los Angeles, Zurich and Berlin.
Catch him in action when he plays a rare date at Vicar St on July 11. Tickets for the Vicar St. are €25 and are available through all the usual channels.
