Damien Rice supports 'Free Aung San Suu Kyi' campaign [updated]
Exclusive to hotpress.com: the artwork for Damien Rice's new single revealed
Damien Rice and longtime musical partner Lisa Hannigan have announced details of their involvement in the 'Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday Campaign'.
Their new single, 'Unplayed Piano', was written as a tribute to Aung San Suu Kyi, following a visit by Rice to Burma in June of last year.
As the leader of Burma's democracy movement - and the world's only imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient - Suu Kyi has been under house arrest since May 2003, and is now the subject of a global human rights campaign to be freed on her 60th birthday, June 19.
Rice and Hannigan will release their single on June 20, and are donating all royalties from the sales of this record to supporting the US Campaign for Burma and the Burma Campaign UK.
Additionally, the Irish artists will play a series of European shows to highlight the 'Free Aung San Suu Kyi' campaign, with tickets for the London Palladium concert on sale today via gigsandtours.com, priced from £22.
Damien Rice will donate all profits from the tour to the AAPPB (Assistance Association of Political Prisoners in Burma), with details of the European dates expected to be announced later in the week.
