Damien Rice's O reaches uncharted territory in UK
O has reached its peak in the UK albums chart, fuelled by the appeal of 'The Blower's Daughter' on the soundtrack to Closer
Boosted by Closer's success in The Golden Globe Awards, Damien Rice's O has risen to its highest ever position in the UK album chart, number eight.
Rice, and his track 'The Blower's Daughter', were actually signed up before Julia Roberts, Jude Law and its other Hollywood A-List stars.
"I think the music in this film is beautiful and adds a hell of a lot, especially the opening and closing sequences," Law enthuses. "Having that in your head when you're embarking on something helps – it can be an emotional trigger and can clarify a mood."
A good week became even better when Damien, currently working 24/7 to complete his second album, heard that he'd won an EU 'Border Breaker' award for sales outside of his native country.
Designed to "celebrate a range of musical tastes and the potential of the single market", there were also gongs for Britain's Katie Melua, Italy's Benny Benassi & The Biz and Wir Sind Helden who, we're reliably informed, are the hottest thing to come out of Germany in an aeon.
