Coldplay bring world tour to Dublin

The calendar of music events this summer looks set to be hotter than its weather, with UK giants Coldplay announcing a gig at Marlay Park.

The kings of the indie ballad themselves will begin their world tour of outdoor concerts at Dublin on June 22, by which time they will have released their follow-up to 2002’s acclaimed A Rush of Blood To The Head, which entertained millions with tracks such as ‘The Scientist’ and ‘In My Place’.

“We've spent a long time in the studio and haven't played a gig for eighteen months," says guitarist Jonny Buckland, "so we can't wait to get out on tour and play our new songs live.”

Singer Chris Martin also spent their away-time with wife Gwenyth Paltrow and newborn Apple, and contributed to Band Aid 20’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’.

Album number three looks set to be as anthemic as their reputation suggests, with drummer Will Champion describing it as “a natural progression from the last record.”

“There are songs that kind of pick up where ‘Clocks’ left off, but also ones that have moved on a bit,” he explains. Song titles include 'Square One', 'What If', 'Talk', 'X&Y', 'Till Kingdom Come' and 'The Hardest Part'.

Tickets for the Marlay Park extravaganza cost €59.50, and will go on sale from Friday 11 March at 9am. They’re limited to 6 per per person.
