There were no last minute surprises as Clean Bandit (pictured), Weekend, Neiked and James Arthur battled it out to be the festive No.1. But ‘Fairytale of New York’ went top 10 once again, for its 89th week in the charts overall
Clean Bandit’s ‘Rockabye’ is the Christmas No.1. The track, which features Sean Paul & Annmarie retained the top slot, ahead of Weekend (featuring Daft Punk)’s ‘Starboy’. Also holding down the same positions as last week are Neiked’s ‘Sexual’ at No.3 and James Arthur’s ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ at No.4.
However, the week’s greatest result has to be the reappearance of the classic ‘Fairytale of New York' by The Pogues (featuring Kirsty McColl) at No.6. The song has shown remarkable resilience, clambering back into the upper reaches of the charts in the UK and Ireland every year. It has now spent a total of 89 weeks in the Irish charts.

There may be disappointment in the Zayn Malik camp. Expectations might have been that his collaboration with Taylor Swift might claim the festive limelight for the former One Direction star – but a 15 place rise was all ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ could muster, landing at No.20. Meanwhile, Picture This capped a hugely successful year as the top irish single, climbing to No.25 with ‘This Christmas’.
