What has been billed as the first East West Easter Friendship Concert takes place on Saturday in Moscow – and the Irish Norwegian song will be given pride of place at it.
The modern classic ‘You Raise Me Up’ has been selected for what may be a very special concert indeed.
Following its inclusion in James E. Perone’s SMASH HITS: The 100 Songs That Defined America – an academic study of the songs that have influenced American life from the 1750’s to 2016 – 'You Raise Me Up', written by Irish songwriter and novelist, Brendan Graham (pictured) and Norway’s Rolf Lovland, now finds itself building bridges between Russia and the West.
In what is billed as the first East-West, Easter Friendship Concert, to take place on Saturday 22nd April in Moscow’s Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin Mary, a Russian/English bi-lingual arrangement of the world-famous song, will be performed by the Choir of the Moscow State University of Printing Arts, and the Orchestra of the Moscow State College of Frederic Chopin with Violin Soloist, Alina Yudina.

The song has been covered hundreds of times, translated into numerous different languages – including Welsh, Filipino, Croatian and Tahitian! – and sung at major events and occasions all over the world, including two Nobel Peace Prize concerts. However, this is the first official word of a Russian translation.
