Bono nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize

Bono, Colin Powell and Pope John Paul II are among the nominees for this year's Nobel Peace Prize

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 17 Feb 2005

Bono is among the nominees for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize, which will be awarded on December 10.

Says the director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Geri Lundestad: "We've received 166 nominations so far, of which 29 are organisations. The geographical scope is wide."

While Bono's campaigning for third world debt relief has been universally acknowledged, it's expected that the Prize will go to one of the groups involved in coordinating the tsunami relief effort.

Although the list is supposed to confidential, other nominees that have been leaked to the media are Pope John Paul II, Colin Powell and Ravi Shankar.
