Bob & Bono Miss Out On Nobel Prize

The bookies got it wrong with 7-1 joint favourites Bono and Bob Geldof pipped to the Nobel Peace Prize by Mohamed ElBaredi, an Egyptian who works with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The IAEA has been pivotal of late in trying to persuade Iran and North Korea to abandon their respective nuclear weapons development programmes.

As one award closes another opens, with U2’s Vertigo extravaganza nominated for four Billboard Touring gongs – Top Tour, Top Draw, Top Boxscore and, in association with Paul McGuinness and the Principle posse, Top Management Company.

In other U2-related news, their old production pal Steve Lillywhite has been appointed Senior Vice-President of A&R at Columbia Records in New York.

“I’m looking to sign the best artists around,” he enthuses, “and believe that Columbia is the place to make the best possible records.”
