The soundtrack is a re-imagined version of the 2009 album of the same name, with the tracks performed by members of the cast.
Belle and Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch released the album God Help the Girl in 2009 hoping the songs off the album will eventually go towards a musical film. After a Kickstarter campaign and some festival screenings this dream has been realized, as the film, and its soundtrack will soon see a theatrical release. God Help the Girl, written and directed by Murdoch, will be in Irish theaters starting August 16, with the soundtrack following on August 18.
The soundtrack consists of songs from the 2009 album sung by the film's cast. Murdoch has also added three new songs to the soundtrack: 'Pretty When the Wind Blows', 'I Dumped You First', and 'I'm Not Rich'. It also features the original version of Belle and Sebastian's 'Dress Up in You'. The film stars Emily Browning, Olly Alexander, and Hannah Murray.
