Tim Wheeler reveals plans for a big outdoor summer gig
Tim Wheeler has told Hot Press that Ash are planning to play a big outdoor gig here during the summer.
"I can't say where or when because it hasn't been 100% confirmed yet, but hopefully it'll come off," reveals Tim from his Downpatrick abode.
Far from putting their feet up, the band have been busy gigging and working on the follow-up to Free All Angels.
"Roger Daltry of The Who rang us up and asked if we'd like to do one of the Teenage Cancer Trust gigs he was organising," Wheeler resumes. "You don't say 'No' to rock royalty, so last Friday we got to play the Royal Albert Hall with most of our respective families looking on. It's the sort of venue you can take your parents to and not worry about somebody spilling a pint over them! We got to meet all these teenage cancer patients during the day, so it was really worthwhile."
A Ms. C. Hatherley has been spreading rumours that you're going electronic on the next album.
"I took my computer on the road with me last year in the States and got into looping and sampling and all that sort of stuff. I thought that might get incorporated into our songs, but we started jamming recently are just like rock monsters! I don't think we need any extra help."
Rock monster or not, Wheeler isn't adverse to a spot of hot turntable action.
"I did some deejaying the other week in the new Dublin venue, The Village, and had a brilliant time. I did quite a bit of it last year in the States – playing in clubs after we'd gigged – and am getting half-decent at it now."
