Adam Clayton's former PA fails to get prison sentence reduced
Adam Clayton's former PA Carol Hawkins has seen her appeal against the severity of her prison sentence rejected by the Court of Criminal Appeal this morning.
Last week, the Court dismissed her challenge to the conviction. Hawkins was convicted in 2012 on 181 counts of stealing €2.8 million from the U2 bassist, using cheques drawn from his accounts.
A three-judge panel ruled that there was "no error in principle" and thus the Court "cannot interfere with the sentence". It was also noted that the case did not originate as a result of financial difficulties. Hawkins worked for Clayton for 16 years and was the signatory on two of his bank accounts.
