The acclaimed tribute act Ladies in the Blues will be coming to the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray at the start of this March. After selling out the venue last summer and earning rave reviews, Ladies in the Blues will be back on March 3 and 4 due to public demand. One such rave review from journalist Dermot Hayes called the opening night “a spectacular, opening night stage production, featuring four female singers and a cracking band of blues."
The musical act takes the lesser-known ladies of blues history and finally puts them right in the spotlight. The forgotten history of blues icons such as Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith & Mamie Smith is chronicled in performances from modern Irish blues acts Flo Mc Sweeney, Clara Rose Monahan, Emma Nicolai & Jhil Quinn. Backed up by a full blues band including Ed Deane & James Delaney, the show takes the audience on a musical journey from 1910 to the 1970s. Featured songs include C Ryder, Black Coffee Blues, I Put a Spell on You, Ball and Chain, Piece of My Heart, Feelin' Good, Little Red Rooster, I'd Rather Go Blind, Ain't Nobody's Business and more.
The show runs from March 3 to 4 at the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray. Tickets are available at www.mermaidartscentre.ie.
