Girls Aloud for Dublin and Belfast in 2013

We've stopped weeping over the fact that Girls Aloud will soon be forever silent long enough to hear the happy news that they're going out with a bang.

In support of their forthcoming singles collection Ten, the group are hitting the road for a farewell tour and they've just confirmed that they're Ireland-bound.

First up, Belfast. Cheryl, Nadene and co will take to Odyssey Arena stage on March 13, with tickets priced at £38. A few days later, they're in Dublin. You can catch them at The O2 on March 16. Tickets for that gig are €44.05.

Before that, they release new single 'Somehting New' in aid of Children In Need on November 18.

Tickets go onsale from 9am next Friday, October 26 and you can get them via www.ticketmaster.ie and www.girlsaloud.com.

It could be the absence of any effective melodic hook to speak of: the Girls did not get where they are on style alone, and the substance of their previous work is in disappointingly short supply here.

Can there be anyone out there more tuned into the pop zeitgeist at the moment than this lot? With single after single proving the case, the serious critics are now falling in line as well and See The Day is more of the same. It pulls that old stunt of covering a forgotten ‘80s song (‘Dee C. Lee’ in case you were racking your brains) and turning it into a modern, state of the art tune. Tut all you want purists, but you really can’t beat Girls Aloud, so you may as well join them.
