Amps For The Memories!

The sun came out, the sun stayed. Robert Smith played over 30 songs. Patti Smith showed her support for Pussy Riot and ended with ‘Gloria’. Bono, The Edge and Glen Hansard looked on.

Eagerly anticipated for months and months (since last September if we’re being totally honest), Electric Picnic 2012 did not disappoint, bringing some of the world’s greatest acts, our own finest artists, an array of comedians, broadcasters and writers all together in one warm wonderland of song and discussion. And as ever, Hot Press was slap bang in the middle of the action with a Chatroom overflowing with talent. Ed Sheeran got the massive teen contingent, John Cooper Clarke proved such a hit that he came back for seconds on Sunday and dance legends Orbital waxed lyrical on ‘electric music’. And that’s barely scratching the surface.

As for that electric music, it sounded pretty good to us, with one of the strongest line-ups in EP’s nine-year history wowing crowds over the three days. Sadly, it had to end at some point and, after some much needed R&R, now’s the time for reflection as Team HP pull off the battered wellies and settle down for an in-depth look at the surprise packages, biggest performances and everything else weird
