Caught In The Net: Making A Proper Clint Of Himself
From Clint Eastwood to cute glowing cockroaches, there isn’t a dull moment on the web this fortnight...
Will.i.am is popping up in all sorts of places these days. He is, for instance, the only musician ever to have premiered a single on Mars (the song was played on a Martian rover – will.i.am wasn’t actually there). Perhaps stranger still is the thought of will.i.am rocking up to an industry trade show. The influential International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam, to be precise, where his involvement in the promotion of scientific subjects sees the singer and entrepreneur headlining the conference. He’ll deliver the September 7 keynote on the subject of creativity, technology and thinking outside the box to an audience of rapt broadcast industry professionals. The experience should be otherworldly and inspired. Find out more at
www.ibc.org.
On the topic of inspiration of a different kind entirely, move over ‘planking’ and ‘Tebowing’ and make way for ‘Eastwooding’ – the practise of berating an empty chair à la Clint Eastwood. The world is emulating the normally taciturn actor’s unorthodox way of taking a pop at Obama. The original act of ‘Eastwooding’ was at the recent Republican Convention in Tampa, where the actor delivered an unscripted rant decrying the assumption that all actors are ‘left of Lenin’ liberals while having a good old imaginary chinwag with said empty chair, pretending it was swearing at him and asking it to account for the various grievances the staunch Republican has against the current government. The Twitter machine picked up on it instantly and Obama’s team was quick to get down with the ‘Eastwooding’, sending a clear message that the President’s chair wouldn’t be empty any time soon…
And if that wasn’t perplexing enough, prepare to be made to feel ‘totes uncool’ by Trotter the Hipster Dog, who has more followers on Instagram than any ordinary Joe. This trendy French bulldog poses in berets, pipes, top hats and fake moustaches and her pics are posted up by owner Sonya Yu who says the canine has gathered over 30,000 online followers. Find her on web.stagram.com/n/trotterpup.
If pups are not your thing, how do you feel about cockroaches? Before you run screaming from the room to call pest control, check out National Geographic online for these very rare, glowing cockroaches called Luchihormetica luckae who look like cute wee characters from Spirited Away!
And talking of spirited away, the Essex Lion may have been a figment of someone’s imagination but he survived online, tweeting under a number of different handles about his state of starvation and his appetite for the cast of TOWIE. And did you hear they found the Essex Lion hiding in a wardrobe? When asked what he’d been doing, the Lion replied ‘Narnia business!’…
