Eimear Coyle: "I don't know how to write about myself!"

The Wonder Villains frontwoman talks football, writing and her highlights of the last 12 months.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 27 Jun 2012

Earlier this year, we named them one of 50 Irish bands you had to hear and now one quarter of pop foursome Wonder Villains graces the pages of Hot Press again.

Taking the time to chat to Dave Hanratty, Eimear Coyle wasted no time lamenting our Euro 2012 defeat, "We were all dressed in green, ready to win and then... nightmare. It probably couldn't have gone any worse. Well it could have been five!"

Always eager to keep things upbeat, as you might have guessed from Wonder Villain's trademark bright, infectious sound, Coyle commended the crowd before moving on to explain she can't write about herself.

"I just don't know how to do that. I can only write about other people, whether it's people on TV or celebrities or whatever."

Though she is willing to give it a try in the future: "I've never really tried. I must, though, some day."

This year has been good to the Northern Ireland natives with the success of 'ZOLA', impressive performances at Bristol's Dot To Dot festival earlier this month and SXSW in March and a debut album expected to drop in the near future. So what was the highlight?

"Supporting The Human League was unbelievable. We got to play with The Undertones a few weeks ago too. They're the biggest band to ever come out of Derry and to have them go on after you and big you up to their crowd is just an amazing feeling."
