Today FM's Alison Curtis made the announcement exclusively to Hot Press
Hot Press can exclusively reveal that The Last Splash, the beloved indie show hosted by Alison Curtis every Sunday night on Today FM, is coming to a close this Halloween.
Curtis will now focus completely on The Alison Curtis Show, broadcast weekday mornings from 0500 - 0700.
Talking to Hot Press, the Canadian presenter explains her decision.
"I made the decision now because the six day workload has just been too much. Obviously I started the morning show last year and presenting the two has been a lot of work. I've been finishing up late on Sunday night and then been straight back on first thing in the morning."
Curtis has hosted the show since May 2003 and has gone on to become a respected figure on the Irish music scene as a result, earning three Best DJ Meteor nominations along the way.
"It is sad to see it go," she says. "It's been a big part of me for the last seven years. I know it sounds corny, but you really grow with the show, your musical tastes change. I was just thinking that it's probably the oldest continuous indie show in Ireland. It's kind of the granddaddy! "

Since those early shows in 2003, The Last Splash has quadrupled its audience and consistently provided its listeners with fantastic new music, as well as exclusive interviews and sessions. Curtis talks about the importance of the show.
"The basis for the show was the mandate to play new, unheard Irish music. It's been great to meet people, see shows and to introduce new bands that have gone on to great success. I'm proud of it."
The last Last Splash goes out on Today FM from 2000-2200 Sunday October 31. Curtis says it will be a look back at the past seven years and should make for a memorable finale.
"We'll be broadcasting some of the highlights over the years. We'll dig out some of the big interviews - Frank Black, who I accosted every time he was in Dublin, PJ Harvey, the very emotional interview with Daniel Lanois... It will be a special last ever show on Halloween night."
As yet, the show's replacement has not been announced.
