Saints And Sinners
Rumours of his creative death are, it turns out, somewhat exaggerated
Signed by a major as a young man… called “the new Dylan” every 20 minutes… talked about in gossipy far-too-interested whispers in the venues and the lock-ins (has he been dropped? Is he still writing?)… “Well, anyone can lose it all,” as Casey himself sings here. Rumours of his creative death are, it turns out, somewhat exaggerated: this first single from imminent new album Living is a friendly, almost childlike song about tiny acts of bravery, played with engaging bluster and sung disarmingly simply. It’s almost Sesame Street-ish positivity reminds me of Cat Stevens’ ‘If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out’, and it rings truer than any song of his this writer has ever heard. If you wanna sing out, Paddy, sing out.
