Obstacle 1

Phil Udell, 22 Nov 2002

More snappy dressers from New York, which alone is probably enough to send the Strokes comparisons flying, inaccurately as it turns out.

Like Radio 4, there’s a strong British influence at work, this time from the ’80s post-punk scene – taking in overtones of Joy Division, Gang Of Four and Wire – wrapped up in an invigoratingly spiky package. The sense of lineage is further increased by the inclusion of two Peel session tracks, enabling the band to follow in their footsteps of their inspiration.
