Like their indie brethren, The Bravery excel in ambitious, forceful, intricately textured anthems.

Say what you will about these over-styled upstarts – they can certainly deliver the tunes. Greased with a generous slick of sexed-up ‘80s vigour and keyboard-electronica, it’s fairly easy to see where those Killers comparisons stemmed from. Like their indie brethren, The Bravery excel in ambitious, forceful, intricately textured anthems. The B-side is a nicely revved-up, modernised version of U2’s ‘An Cat Dubh’. Now, once Sam Endicott cans that paltry Bono impression, they’ll be laughing.

Time Won't Go Away

All change in the Bravery camp, it would appear. Gone are the silly haircuts, black nail-polish and ‘80s-influenced synth-rock, replaced by a fairly standard rock approach that sits somewhere between Feeder and The Killers and even references Bryan Adams. Get over the shock and it’s not at all bad, although whether their audience will go with them remains to be seen.

The Bravery used to sound like their Big Apple compatriots, Interpol. So in case any intrepid rock scribes point out the similarity, they’ve decided to take some influence from across the pond instead. ‘Unconditional’ is yet another new-wave revivalist number, and it’s near impossible to distinguish it from other thumping anthems provided by The Kaiser Chiefs, Futureheads, and Franz Ferdinand. Good or bad thing? Depends on how highly you value the concept of originality.
