Pete Doherty Live at the Heineken Green Spheres, Roisin Dubh

Overall, it’s a decent performance, suggesting that he may just be fully back on track

John Donellan, 11 Feb 2010

Ah Jaysus, how do you review a Peter Doherty gig? With an open mind I guess. An astonishing seven thousand people applied for the free tickets to see this rescheduled show and, judging by their clobber, the 300 lucky punters are besotted followers.

When Mr. Doherty appears on stage he seems remarkably together. On schedule and looking smart and casual, he rips into the set with ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’ and ‘The Ha Ha Wall’. Alone on stage, Doherty looks almost stately.

Overall, it’s a decent performance, suggesting that he may just be fully back on track, although he has to restart ‘Salome’ and drops a fluffed note or two on ‘What Katie Did’. Quite why he has invited two ballet dancers along, however, is anybody’s guess. But, hey, who’s complaining?

When he finally shambles into the night, having cadged a few cigarettes from the front row, the crowd are left wanting more. Job done, then.
