Leftfield

This is the second in Leftfield’s warm-up shows for their run of festival performances this summer (which culminates with a headlining slot at Electric Picnic), although there appears to be precious little warming up to do - the group are on fire from the off. With founding member Paul Daley having opted out of the reunion tour, the other half of the original line-up, Neil Barnes, is accompanied by a three-piece group (compromised of a programmer, a keyboardist and a drummer), who conjure up a series of phenomenal dance grooves.
Much in the manner of Gorillaz, there are a series of guest vocalists, who all do a superb job performing tracks from Leftfield’s brace of classics, Leftism and Rhythm And Stealth. The stand-out moment is a powerhouse version of 'Release The Pressure'(featuring Earl Sixteen and Cheshire Cat on MC duties), which genuinely merits the description "mindblowing".
From there until the end, there is no let up from the band - they deliver a non-stop stream of pulsating dance music that creates a euphoric atmosphere.
At the conclusion, a bloke vaults over my chair and points frantically at the amazing scenes below. He has a mad look in his eye. "Look at that," he beams. "It’s a sea of craziness."
All I can say is - do not miss Leftfield at the Picnic.
