Bringing their brand of ‘pirate metal’ to Dublin on Friday evening, Scottish five piece Alestorm sailed into the Tivoli Theatre to a sea of swashbuckling enthusiasts.
Halfway into their tour, their Dublin show was among a string of sold out shows across the UK promoting their latest album ‘No Grave But the Sea’. Taking the stage in their pirate uniforms, Alestorm opened with track ‘Keelhauled’, a clear crowd pleaser that immediately ignited the crowd in a unified roar. The band are a lot of fun, and bring a terrific energy and humour to the show that makes for a truly enjoyable experience. Their blend of folk metal and Pirates of the Carribean works well, with the crowd singing along to pirate anthem ‘The Sunken Norwegian’ - most of whom dressed as pirates, putting you right on the deck of a skull n’ bones clad ship.
Having a good bit of fun with the audience, vocalist Christopher Bowes at one point exclaimed "Well that was all our good songs, and this is going to be a really long set!" They then brought a member of their entourage onstage to make light work of cans of cider, which met with uproarious appraisal from the audience.

Bringing the two hour set to a close with an encore of their anthem ‘Shipwrecked’, Alestorm left the crowd hungry for more. Between the lighthearted nature of the show, the powerful rhythms of their pirate anthems and the energy of the crowd, the show was not one to forget.
