Celebration Rock
Underwhelming effort from Canadian garage-rock duo
Canadian duo Brian King and David Prowse (not to be confused with the bodybuilder who played Darth Vader) specialise in a brand of abrasive garage rock reminiscent of such acts as The White Stripes and No Age, although unfortunately somewhat bereft of the melodic flair possessed by those acts. Their studio album Celebration Rock is big on shrieking guitars, pounding drums and shouty vocals, though a bit short on quality tunes. The duo have cited Appetite For Destruction as an influence, and though the album has plenty of energy and attitude, there certainly isn’t a classic along the lines of ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ or ‘Mr. Brownstone’. Indeed, the best track is the Gun Club cover ‘For The Love Of Ivy’. Not essential.
