Writer's Block
From the name, you might well expect Peter Bjorn & John to be some kind of Scandinavian folk trio. You wouldn’t be far wrong.
From the name, you might well expect Peter Bjorn & John to be some kind of Scandinavian folk trio. You wouldn’t be far wrong. Substitute folk with indie lo-fi shoegazing summer-pop and you’d be on the right track. Messrs. Moréin, Yitting and Eriksson are three songwriters who work together in various combinations (although only once as a trio), an approach that has seemingly brought a range of influences to the surface.
The overriding feel is of a bright, breezy, harmony-fied pop sound best demonstrated by the single ‘Young Folks’. Showcasing the vocals of The Concrete’s Victoria Bergsman, it’s the hit of the summer that never was, and easily the best thing on Writer’s Block. The rest of the record sees them explore different avenues, from the shuffling, eerie funk of ‘Amsterdam’ to the Spacemen 3-style drone of ‘Roll The Credits’.
A little underground gem.
