Fab Moretti, drummer with The Strokes, tells us how Dylan has inspired him.
“Bob Dylan has always been consistent and always been great. You can take him when he was young, you know Another Side To Bob Dylan, right up to Love And Theft and there’s always something there to learn from. Like Self Portrait, that song (‘Wigwam’) where he goes la-la-la-la-la-la. That’s so fucking great. The voice of a generation – with the emphasis on the word voice – and he devotes a whole song, probably the best on the whole record, to just going la-la-la-la-la. And you know why: ‘because I don’t feel like being the fucking voice of a generation right now’. He’s a brave fucking artist. Someone who treats his audience with respect but isn’t afraid to boot their ass from time to time. He was always a fucking instigator; forcing people to confront truths about the world around them and about their own lives and it’s just the coolest thing that he’s still doing it.”
