JACKIE HAYDEN meets SOMETHING ELSE, the Irish pop duo who ve no time for Britney or Christina
Something Else, a sister act from Tipperary who have been brewing up a storm around the Munster area, have now gone national with a debut single So Much Emotion on their own BOC label (they re managed by their Dad Brendan, gettit?).
Both tracks on the single were written by Pat Buckley who last visited these pages as the guiding light behind the much-touted band The Media. While that lead track would not go amiss in the repertoire of an out-and-out cheesy popster like Cher, the second track Give An Inch proves they can edge it up a bit when the mood takes them.
As Sarah, aged 17, told me, We re not going for any particular formula. We just want to make music we like and we think we re good at. We do pop, we do rock, and we d like people to be open-minded enough to judge what they hear rather than anything to do with a particular image or marketing plan.
So what have Something Else to offer in a world already over-supplied with talented acts across all genres?
We want to get away from the manufactured acts like Britney, Christina Aguillera and the rest of them. We want to be an original band and come across as ourselves, who we really are. We are really into the music. We come from a musical family and we practice every chance we get away from college and studies. All our spare time revolves around music.
Something Else debut single So Much Emotion is available from BOC Records.
