Listen to 'Harmony' from Clinic's new album Walking With Thee, out tomorrow
"Ade, Hartley, Brian and Carl are from Liverpool," says Clinic’s press release by way of coy introduction, like a papery Cilla Black - "but that’s where the similarity with any other quartet ends." Unless, of course, you want to count the Velvet Underground, also a bunch of four, with whom Clinic occasionally share a certain late-Sixties art-house spookiness. (In moments like "Walking With Thee" for example - the title track of their spanking-new album, out tomorrow – Clinic indicate that they would have done well as the Factory’s jittery, brainiac, impenetrable, but quite catchy, other house band.) But Walking With Thee (reviewed in full in next fortnight’s Hot Press, out Feb. 28th) conclusively displays that there’s more to Clinic than Velvet asides, braying melodicas and being Radiohead’s favourite support act.
We in Ireland haven’t seen the lads since Witnness (where, incidentally, hotpress.com nabbed a very groovy video interview with them, of which more later). So to celebrate their return, and to whet your appetite for our soon-to-follow video interview, where they were very funny and genial and wore their surgical masks the whole time, we give you ‘Harmony’, the opening track from Walking With Thee.
Click here for four minutes and two seconds of Harmony. (Inner peace not included)
