Adrian's Verbals
It all started when my sister posted a link on my facebook
page, about a photojournalist competition run by Hot Press and HTC. So I entered and did my best to forget about it – and I almost had when I got the news that I had made last twelve. I was to cover a Royseven gig with the new HTC camera phone.
You might think this all sounds amazing but having seen HTC’s latest TV ad, where they fling a recent Photo-school graduate out of a plane I was somewhat reluctant, but having already received the phone (a device that I was now starting to believe may well be smarter than me) I was somewhat fearful of how the little android in my pocket would react if I did not fulfill my obligations.
So the night came and off I went. When I arrived the venue was buzzing with nervous looking finalists. They assessed the lighting and the best angles from which to shoot, some of them were prostrate on the floor doing some kind of camera yoga, while others seemed to be suspended in mid air with a
Spiderman-like ease. Before I knew it, Royseven were on, filling this warm intimate venue with intense alternative rock, the wooden beams and floorboards vibrated in harmony with the band. The excitement was palpable. Between tweets and stolen photographic moments the night slipped away and all
that was left to do the next day was to try to process it all…
