The Maccabees and The Vaccines may have had fantastic 2012s but, for the most part, unreconstructed guitar music is in the doldrums. Coming over the hill to shake indie out of its torpor and wrestle control from the bedroom producers and electronic stars are The 10:04s. A clearly time-conscious Edinburgh outfit, they aim to capture both the ramshackle charm of The Libertines and the slash-and-burn intensity of The Clash, with a few post-punk flecks thrown in to assure us that, yes, the ‘80s did actually happen actually. Already heralded in their hometown and Scotland as a whole (the Scottish FA are using their single ‘Lights Out’ as the theme for their Scotland United series), they’re now getting playlisted as far afield as the States. They quote Lester Bangs, beanpole striker Peter ‘good touch for a big man’ Crouch is a fan – what could possibly go wrong?
