Angel Haze -- Republic Records (Universal)
If you've heard Angel Haze's harrowing, unflinchingly raw take on Eminem's 'Cleanin' Out My Closet', you'll already know her name. In fact, you'll never be able to forget it. The song that propelled the New York-based rapper into the spotlight, it easily outdoes Em's relatively mild (yup) original, painting a graphic picture of her young life in Michigan and the sexual abuse she suffered. Both fragile and utterly brave, it marked the 21-year-old (real name Raykeea Wilson) out as a major talent. With a fiery, machine-gun flow that's stomped its way all over – and completely reimagined – many of rap's recent classics, she's looking to take on all comers, be they male or female. "All I have in common with most women rappers is genitalia," she recently sniffed. "I've maybe heard one Azealia Banks' song." Having signed to the now-defunct Universal, Angel Haze has now moved over to the revived Republic Records.
