Lent ends here – a jam packed edition of FMF to kickstart your weekend...
Inbetween scoffing Marks & Sparks Chocolate Hot Cross Buns – the two best things about Easter decadently combined! – Free Music Good Friday has managed to assemble a wondrous collection of tunes to soundtrack your Bank Holiday. And because many of you will be spending tomorrow in quiet religious contemplation, we’re bringing it to you 24 hours early.
We’re dead impressed with Genre Free 2013, the second installment of the download album “jam packed with new Irish music”. Specially recorded tunes from Kalare, Superhanz, Rudy Trixx and Leading Armies can be found at [link]www.ndtproductions.org/GenreFree.html[/link]
More on all of the aforementioned in upcoming issues of Hot Press.
It was rave reviews all round at SXSW for Le1f, the flamboyant NYC rapper whose riotous Stubb’s gig is available for your viewing and download pleasure.
This week’s Noise Trade goodies include titles from Arcade Fire-tinged folkies Langhorne Slim, the vault-raiding Omnivore Recordings and The Get Togethers, a Houston collective who’ve penned a tune for every month of the year. We’re particularly taken with ‘June’.
All are free, but you’re very welcome to leave a tip!

Generous chaps that they are, there are three non-album bonus tracks – ‘666% Insane’, ‘Jaws’ and ‘Terrorscope Espanol’.
“In a time when a tenner can't get you two pints and the average taxi fare costs more than a new kidney, we decided people deserved something for free – but instead of giving them money or free drink, we're offering four slices of high-intensity speed metal instead,” reflects singer Philly Byrne. “Download it, listen to it and give *** INSERT WHATEVER DAY IT IS *** a big hard kick up the arse with us!”
Self-confessed Kings of Geek, the Irish quintet mix vintage thrash metal with absurd, acid-tongued lyrics and a strong comic-book aesthetic.
Dublin indie stalwarts The Dudley Corporation limber up for the release of their fourth album, Everyone Does Everything Wrong, with this rather lovely free taster, ‘Grey Lights’. Nice to have you back, gents.
One of Free Music Friday’s best discoveries this week is Cillie Barnes, a Los Angeles-based songstress who, for all of her website’s hippy-dippyness, sounds like a mainstream star waiting to happen.
Kendrik Lamar has wondrous things done to his ‘Swimming Pools’ tune by Vancouver producer Blood Diamonds who has an equally nifty Major Lazer remix available for free download.
The dancey downloads coming to us this week courtesy of http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3 include Stormfield, Kelpe, Amirali, j.Faraday, Timoti, Mad:AM, Kinky Leighton, The Golden Boy and Fjord Morrison.

It’s sadly not available as a download, but we still thought you’d like to see Jake Bugg tearing it up on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic.
Our fave chilled vid of the week accompanies ‘Full Circle’, the new single from Montreal’s Half Moon Run who are Longitude-bound this summer.
Good Friday is also Good Vibrations Friday as the brilliant Terri Hooley biopic hits screens nationwide. From Richard Dormer’s portrayal of the great man to the gig recreations featuring Rudi and The Outcasts, it’s fabulous stuff. Incidentally, the new issue of Hot Press is full of Good Vibes-y goodness with Terri and producer/soundtracker David Holmes both interviewed.
And that is where we must sling our Free Music Good Friday hook. Have a fab long weekend and keep those links coming to @stuartclark66
