As if the prospect of a looooooooong bank holiday weekend wasn’t exciting enough, we’ve a seriously star-studded Free Music Friday to feast your ears on...
If you didn’t manage to stay up to stupid o’clock to watch it live, Vampire Weekend’s Steve Buscemi-directed gig in New York has been archived for your viewing pleasure.
Part of the Tribeca Film Festival, it’s a handsome looking affair that includes a smattering of tunes from their new Modern Vampires Of The City album.
The Boardwalk Empire/Sopranos man also came up with a series of trailers, one of which features the fabulous Grimes.
Also burning a hole in our screens this week is the incendiary one-hour set that Iggy & The Stooges treated New York clubbers to last week. Cop an eyeful at [link]www.npr.org/event/music/178305417/iggy-the-stooges-live-in-concert?autoplay=true[/link]
Another busy streaming week kicks off at [link]3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums.html[/link] with offerings from !!!, Altar Of Plagues, Andy Cato, Ola Podrida, Spilt Milk, Colin Stetson, Young Galaxy, Shout Out Louds, The Ex And Brass Unbound, Ghostpoet, Treetop Flyers, Coma, Cayucas, Wolf People, Melvins, Neon Neon, Mick Harvey, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats and Deerhunter; [link]www.npr.org/series/98679384/first-listen[/link] chips in with She & He, Natalie Maines, Mikal Cronin, La Vida Boheme, Deerhunter, Os Mutantes and Iggy & The Stooges; [link]pitchfork.com/advance[/link] is ahead of the posse with new releases from Little Boots, Co La and Still Corners, and [link]www.radio6.nl/luisterpaal[/link] is the go-to place for Har Mar Superstar, Phaedra, Luke Winslow-King and Noisettes.
It’s not out yet, but come May 5 you’ll be able to download Garage Swim, a free garage rock compilation featuring tracks from the likes of Black Lips, King Tuff, JEFF The Brotherhood and Bass Drum Of Death. Get it when it’s ready from [link]www.adultswim.com[/link]
Our favourite Free Music Friday thing this week is Acid Rap, the ace new mixtape from Chance The Rapper, which includes input from the likes of Childish Gambino and Action Bronson. The Chicago hip hopper in question is going to be massive!
Wyclef Jean hasn’t had the best of press later – his philanthropic efforts in Haiti being the nub of the problem – but serves up some tasty treats on his April Showers mix, which includes a thumping Whitney Houston Dub Plate.
There’s mixtape-ry of a more indie hue at [link]www.athousandguitars.com/2013/04/download-our-autumn-mixtape-featuring-alabama-shakes-gangs-of-ballet-fleet-foxes.html[/link] where Alabama Shakes, Fleet Foxes, Jenny O, Midnight Spin, Guided By Voices and The Virginmarys are among those in a glorious muddle.
Not content with touring round the States together, Marina And The Diamonds and Charli XCX have recorded an electropop banger, ‘Just Desserts’, which is yours for the price of a Soundcloud ‘download’ click.
Bethnal Green’s fabulously named Joy Orbison brings the free summer funk with ‘Donell’. A perfect addition, Mr. or Mrs. Promoter, to any Irish festival bill! The Producer Also Known As Peter O’Grady does have a club headliner coming up on October 11 in Dublin’s Twisted Pepper.
Tuung whet appetites for next month’s Turbines album with the glitchpoptastic ‘So Far From Here’.

Free Music Friday is delighted to make the acquaintance of Harry Fraud, New York’s High Priest of Psychedelic Boom Rap and somebody who has Action Bronson, French Montana and Earl Sweatshirt on speed-dial.

Geriatrics at this stage, Hanson treat fans to 21 Years Of Music, a mini-live ‘Best Of’, which also includes a track from their upcoming Anthem album. We have to say that (relative) old age suits them.
Also new from the Noise Trade stable is Jillette Johnson’s Whiskey & Frosting five-tracker, which is equal parts St. Vincent and Imogen Heap.
Kodaline look to make it two chart-topping Irish singles in a row with ‘Love Like This’, which is accompanied by this pubtastic video.
If you’ve laid awake at night wondering what My Bloody Valentine would sound like if Duke Special rather than Kevin Shields were at the helm, here’s the answer! We reckon MBV should repay the compliment by giving ‘Sweet Sweet Kisses’ a sonic cheesegratering.
Free Music Friday would happily keep working all weekend but, sadly, the bosses are ordering us to down tools early and get ourselves some quality R+R. Whatever you’re doing have a good ‘un and keep those links coming to @stuartclark66
