A monster offering this week, including a full album's worth of Chromatics' goodness...
Size most definitely is important as we bring you what is officially the biggest Free Music Friday In The World… Ever! Yup, we’ve never has as many streams and downloads with which to tickle your rock ‘n’ roll fancy. Feel free to gasp in awe at our giganticness…
The hot streaming action starts at [link]3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums.html[/link] with new offerings from Stubborn Hearts, Paws, Tussle, Chad Valley, Vitalic and former Slits woman Viv Albertine; [link]music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/#/1[/link] adds Aerosmith, Saigon, All That Remains, While She Sleeps and Paul Kelly to the mix; and [link]music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/spinner#/1[/link] is where you’ll find The Casket Lottery, Joshua James, Imani Coppola, Mike Doughty, Calvin Love, Lindstrom and, if you haven’t already devoured it, Ash’s A To Z singles collection.
[link]www.npr.org/series/98679384/first-listen[/link] is the go to place for albums by ambient maverick Holly Herndon and very odd couple Jozef Van Wissem and Jim Jarmusch.
If you’re of the esoteric dance persuasion, you should also check out the downloadable Ana Sia gig to be found at [link]www.npr.org/event/music/163240634/ana-sia-in-concert-moogfest-2012[/link].
Seeing as, sniff, nobody was prepared, sob, to fly us, wail, over to the States for their dates with Jake Bugg and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, our Snow Patrol fix this week comes courtesy of the ace version of ‘Chasing Cars’ they performed last week on Minnesota’s 89.3 The Current. The audio and visual evidence can be found at [link]minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2012/10/31/snow-patrol[/link]
There are also streamable treats from OK Go, Foster The People, Polica, Passion Pit, PiL, Mercury winners Alt-j and loads more on the site.
Ray Lamontagne, Jason Mrza and Ryan Adams are just a few of the A-Listers Rachael Yamagata counts as friends. Equal parts Mazzy Star and Cat Power, her free Loft Sessions & More album mixes specially recorded acoustic tunes with studio numbers, one of which features on the Virginian’s upcoming Heavyweight EP.
Signing up to the [link]www.thejoyformidable.com[/link] mailing-list earns you the title-track from the Welsh trio’s upcoming Wolf’s Law album. There are also Irish dates in January, which pleases us immeasurably!
Blanchardstown beat maker Bitter Rocc has made his debut Cold City album available as a free download, with a physical copy that includes bonus tracks and remixes dropping towards the end of the month.
The collection pulls no lyrical punches with drugs, domestic abuse, bullying and homelessness all on the agenda.
We’re also rather taken with the ‘Cold City’ video, which was entirely filmed on an iPhone 4S.
Our fave Free Music Friday things this week include Running From The Sun, a 35-minute compilation of tunes that for one reason or t’other didn’t make it on to Chromatics’ Kill For Love album.
“Jetlagged and buzzing from Friday's show in Paris, I couldn't sleep... so I stayed up all night with Oko talking about colour based dreams while blending these tracks together,” explains the band’s Johnny Jewel. “Since the album came out, a lot of people on the road have been telling us they are curious to hear some of the unreleased music from the Kill For Love sessions. Recorded November 2009 through December 2011, these songs were all mixed between 4 and 6AM. After hours of tracking at the studio in Montreal, we'd clear the channels on the mixer, open a bottle of wine, and feel around in the dark... working our way through the atmospheric elements & peeling back layers of rhythm... throwing the songs into the abstract pile and playing them while driving home in the snow. In Amsterdam right now trying to upload it from the hotel. Fingers crossed!”
We’re also loving this banging remix of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Give Me Love’, which is the work of New Machine, the production duo featuring Plan B’s Wexford-born right-hand man Adam Jordan.
Not content with guesting on the new Primal Scream album, Mark Stewart joins forces at [link]soundcloud.com/mark-stewart-music/mark-stewart-black-is-the/s-oNfBQ[/link] with Cabaret Voltaire man Richard H. There’s quality Aussie electropop to be had from [link]gypsyandthecat.com[/link]; it gets minus marks for featuring Chris Brown but otherwise the [link]www.datpiff.com/Nelly-Scorpio-Season-mixtape.411707.html[/link] mixtape is a winner; ditto the [link]www.datpiff.com/Soulja-Boy-Young-Flexin-mixtape.412780.html[/link] mix from the Artist Also Known As DeAndre Cortez Way; Born Ruffians man Luke Lalonde previews his solo album at [link]music.cbc.ca/#/play/Elliott-Garnier/playlist/Luke-Lalonde-Rhythymnals[/link], whilst El Buho, Kidsuke, John Talabot & Primal, Heathered Pearls, Ariane Moffat and the deep funk Kraftwerk, Model 500, are among those giving away dancey downloads at [link]www.xlr8r.com/mp3?page=3[/link].

Finally, Led Zeppelin whet appetites for the imminent release of their Celebration Day concert film with this fabulous clip of them performng ‘Kashmir’ at the London O2. Feel free to change your mind about not doing a reunion tour, chaps.
All of which leaves Free Music Friday feeling spent, but immensely satisfied with the quality of this week’s tuneage. To make sure we’re similarly well-endowed next week tweet your links to @stuartclark66
