Here’s something to give you nightmares – an Elvis impersonator in full clown make-up!
We’re indebted to Neil Hamburger – who cameos in the video – for drawing our attention to ‘Cursive’, the latest musical masterpiece from Clownvis Presley.
Yes, you have deduced correctly, Clownvis is a Krustyfied version of the King who’s become the toast of the LA underground comedy scene.
His rise began in 2010 when he was buzzed off the America’s Got Talent auditions in record time.
“You come on as an Elvis-impersonating clown and you’re singing ‘Old McDonald Had A Farm’; it is without doubt the worst act I’ve ever seen,” proffered Piers Morgan, to which Clownvis replied, “I’m proud of that Pierre. Er, who are you?”
Swords were crossed next with a giggling Sharon Osbourne.
“She’s got a contact high from living with Ozzy for too long,” suggested the pancaked popster who was rewarded with a “Fuck off, nobody disrespects my husband!” from the moany matriarch.
It was by anybody’s standards a triumph. Combining classic Elvis tunes with observations on everything from the Fresh Prince Of Bel Air and adult films to gay marriage and the shiteness of East Coast rap, you can check him out at clownvispresley.com
From there it’s but a mere mouse-click to wmm.com/salma, the online home of the new Kim Longinotto documentary, Salma, which was a massive hit at last month’s Berlin Film Festival.
“When Salma, a young Muslim girl in a south Indian village, was 13 years old, her family locked her up for 25 years, forbidding her to study and forcing her into marriage,” the synopsis reads. “During that time, words were Salma’s salvation. She began covertly composing poems on scraps of paper and, through an intricate system, was able to sneak them out of the house, eventually getting them into the hands of a publisher. Against the odds, Salma became the most famous Tamil poet: the first step to discovering her own freedom and challenging the traditions and code of conduct in her village.”
