The Great Escape
So there you are, in the pub, stuck with the date from hell. Need help? Well, such painful encounters are a thing of the past (maybe!) with the help of Secure Singles – a free notification system that will alert your friends or family and offer you an excuse to flee. Here’s how it works – before your date, you log on to the Internet and write a message to a friend. The message will be sent at the time you decide either by text message, email or instant messaging. If your date is going well, you cancel the message from your mobile and continue the date uninterrupted. If not, the message goes and release is on its way. In theory. Maybe it’s just me, but this seems an awful lot of trouble. What ever happened to feigning illness, placing an SOS call to your mate from the loos or escaping out the back door? Much simpler…
Tax-deductible tools of the trade
Sometimes you really have to admire our Australian friends. Tax officials Down Under have issued a list of items for which sex workers can claim tax deductions. The list includes condoms, lingerie, sex toys, gels and dance lessons.
AIDS gel on the way
An HIV microbe-killing gel allowing women to protect themselves from AIDS/HIV may be available by 2010. According to researchers this could help stem the spread of AIDS in countries where men are reluctant to – or refuse to – wear condoms.
Toys
In last week’s issue I had a look at some of the technology that will enable lovers to connect over long distances. Well, here’s some gizmos that do just that via your mobile phone.
First up is the imaginatively named ‘The Toy’. The Toy is a silent, vibrating bullet that is connected to your mobile phone by Bluetooth. It is inserted in the vagina and turns text messages into vibrations. The really clever bit is that the Toy’s movements depend on the content of the message. The longer your text, the more the Toy vibrates. Clever it may be – but cheap it ain’t. Priced at around EUR212, the Toy is available from www.thetoy.co.uk.
A cheaper alternative is the VibraExciter. This vibrator can be used alone or can be triggered by a signal from your phone. The VibraExciter vibrates for 20 seconds when you receive a text message. When you receive a phone call, the vibrations last 20 seconds longer than the call itself. The VibraExciter is available from www.lovehoney.ie for E33.51.

All about the clitoris
We all know that the clitoris is central to female sexual satisfaction and the only part of the body whose sole function is pleasure. But here are some facts you may not have known about this little miracle of biological engineering:
- The clitoris can vary significantly in size. Some are tiny whereas others could rival a penis. A French medical encyclopaedia published in 1813 claimed the existence of a 12-inch clit.
- Like the penis, the clitoris is made of erectile tissue. Most clitorises are about an eight on an inch in size. This increases to about three eights of an inch when aroused.
- On average, the clitoris has about 8,000 nerve endings.
- Most women have the highest number of nerve endings in the clitoris. However, studies have found that some women have higher amounts in other parts of the genitals.

Variations on a Theme
Variety is the spice of life, particularly when it comes to sex. That’s why there are hundreds of different positions to try. Varying the angle of entry or the depth of the penetration results in different sensations, so it’s fun to keep exploring, to find the ones that work best for you and your partner(s). Hardly an onerous task!
Penetrative sex isn’t just about thrusting, though. The back-and-forth motion may be the most common one used during sex, but some women find other movements much more pleasurable.
A man can achieve a lot simply by moving his pelvis in different ways.
- Try tilting the pelvis so it rocks back and forth.
- When you are deep inside your partner, move your pelvis against hers in a circular motion.
- Enter your partner fully and press your pelvis against hers. Maintain the pressure for a few seconds, then release and repeat.
Trying any of these, make sure that you are alert to what your partner’s response is. No point in pressing on, if she isn’t getting of on it.
