Game Of Thrones star Liam Cunningham is encouraging Irish people to swap their regular 9 to 5 for something more exciting.
There’s a bank manager-pleasing €50,000 cache of prizes to be won as, for the second year in a row, Budweiser lets one lucky Irish person bag their Dream Job.
Anyone over 18 years can apply on the Budweiser Ireland Facebook page by telling the judges what they want to do, and why they’re so passionate about it.
Those who need to be impressed are world-renowned producer and DJ Gavin Lynch, AKA Matador, TV presenter Leanne Moore and Liam Cunningham, the Irish actor who chairs the panel and is known to gazillions of Game Of Thrones fans as Davos Seaforth.
Having undergone a major career u-turn himself aged 27, the Dubliner is eminently qualified for the gig.
“I was making a decent enough living as an electrician but one day just went, ‘Nah, can’t do this any more’,” he tells us. “I did weekends and evenings at the Dublin Theatre School and went ‘professional’ when I was 29, which raised a few eyebrows among my friends and family.”
How was the Missus when he informed her, “I’m going to be an actor?”
“She was great. My Dad on the other hand... God rest him, he was standing there reading his newspaper when I told him and, without raising his head, he just went, ‘For fuck’s sake!’ That was his contribution to my career; ‘For fuck’s sake!’
“But you know what, I never looked back. If we can help somebody gain that sort of life-changing experience for themselves, it’ll be mission accomplished!”
Game Of Thrones, Clash Of The Titans, Hunger, Doctor Who, David Holmes and making videos with Kodaline will all be on the agenda when we have an extensive natter with Liam in the 2015 Hot Press Annual, in shops on Thursday December 11.
