hotpress.com members update: "I was sorry I missed The Wedding Present"
7 December 2007
Greetings, minions. As the pre-Christmas rush gets ever-more frantic, we in HP Towers are tearing our collective hair out to bring you the definitive look back at the year that was 2007. That's right, it's the Hot Press Annual, and it's on its way very soon indeed. But in the meantime, let's get things rolling with the answer to last week's lyrical puzzler:

"Gargle with peroxide a steak for your eye/
But I'm a vegetarian so it's a frozen pizza pie."

Ms. Regina Spektor there, with the 'Your Honour' from the 2004 album 'Soviet Kitsch' as memaeve (no not your maeve, memaeve). Moving swiftly onwards, here's this week's teaser:

We sat around the pile/We sat and laughed.
We sat and laughed and/Waved it into the air!

Go on, give it your best shot... we promise we won't laugh if you get it wrong.

BEST GIGS OF 2007

**skennedy:

OK, it might be a bit early for this thread, especially since I've yet to see the Madness show in Belfast this Friday; but my top three gigs of 2007 (excluding festival performances) are:

1 - Engine Alley in Whelans
2 - Arcade Fire in the Olympia
3 - Richard Hawley in Vicar Street

What are yours?

**fran.martin:

In no particular order
Feist - Tripod
Battles - TBMC
Josh Ritter - Dolans

**paulpd:

Went to very few gigs this year but the one that stood out for me was Republic of Loose in the Olympia in April.

Also, Josh Ritter at Tripod.

**tornaxx:

Apart from the Electric Picnic, I've only gone to two gigs this year. The Wedding Present and Mendoza. Although I'm going to see Mum next week.

I think one of the reasons I don't go at much is because of the way tickets are selling out so quickly because of eBay and stuff, and I just couldn't be bothered scurrying around for a ticket. Also, being a non-driver living outside of Dublin doesn't help either...

**skennedy:

I was sorry I missed The Wedding Present. Heard it was great, and that they played all of George Best.

**mereco:

The Rapture-Tripod
LCD Soundsystem-Tripod
Cat Power-Tripod
Justice-The park

**smithrob:

The Who - Marlay Park.

and

any one of my own.

**demon:

woody allen band in the cafe carlyle in new york last month.

**rp.mcmurphy:

u serious bout the engine alley gig??...was there meself and apart from the day in the life cover it was harmeless nostalgia...

Interpol - Oxygen
Brian Wilson - Oxygen
BRMC - Oxegen
Jesus & Mary Chain - EP
Ryan Adams - National Stadium

**berny:

Patti Smith in munich
Loney Dear in iceland

hmmm. more will come to me.

**boy.polar:

Shins - Olympia
Arcade Fire - Olympia

**steve_m:

Yep Shins, arcade fire at the olympia. Wilco in Vicar Street - class!

Handsome family at whelans were very good. Looking forward to okkervil river tomorrow too.

The New Pornographers were very disappointing i thought, tho it coulda been the venue
