hotpress.com members update: "Seriously bad hair day for Boss against Scotland"
16 August 2007
We're counting down the days until Electric Picnic here at HP Towers right now, with the help of an abacus, a calendar and a big red marker. No, maths was not our strong point in school. On that note, we hope any readers who may have received exam results yesterday got what they were hoping for - but if you didn't there's a world of options open to you so don't fret too much!
"Louise holds a handful of rain, tempting you to defy it
Lights flicker from the opposite loft
In this room the heat pipes just cough
The country music station plays soft
But there's nothing really, nothing to turn off..."
Shout out to neecie, who correctly identified last week's lyrical selection as 'Visions of Johanna' by good 'ol Bob Dylan. Now that you've had time to catch your breath after that gargantuan effort, here's this week's head-scratcher:
"You scream and you holla 'bout my Chevy Impala
But the sweat is getting wet 'round the ring 'round your collar
But like a dream I'm flowing without no stopping
Sweeter than cherry pie with ready whip topping"
Indeed. Do let us know when you've cracked it peeps and your name could be up there too. Right near the top of next week's newsletter. One to tell the grandkids, surely.

3. Top of the Sops
Travis are back and they're taking no prisoners. Their fifth album is a brutal, blood-drenched heavy metal assault on the senses. OK, maybe that last bit was a teeny bit of a lie. Hear the real story behind The Boy With No Name from drummer Neil Primrose, in conversation with our own Ed Power.

IRISH RUGBY WORLD CUP SQUAD ANNOUNCED
**hydra:
No major shocks, feel a bit sorry for Mick O'Driscoll, his versatility is working against him. Good to see Geordan Murphy sparkle yesterday aswell, he won't make the first team but it'll be good to have him as an impact player. We'll do well in the World Cup as long as we don't lose one of Hayes, O'Gara, O'Connell and Darcy/O'Driscoll. That Argentina match is gonna be a bruiser. Anyone going to it?
**willabur:
Mick O'Driscoll was terrible when he came on during the six nations. I really hope horgan makes it in time, he is a class act. Carney is an interesting choice, would like to have seen him play some proper top level rugby (6N or heineken Cup) - in a way he is a total unknown quantity for the opposition - I can see plenty of high ball and ball carrying back rows being sent in his direction.
**willabur:
Redden is a much better number 9 than Boss.
**breffni:
Dempsey way more secure than Murphy. See French matches over the last 2 years. Agreed he played well on Saturday but he's never really played as well for Ireland as he has for Munster. If Horgan's fit, we have enough gamebreakers so use Murphy as an impact sub. If he's not fit put Murphy in. As for Carney he's a good Rugby League player but I don't know if his positioning is 100% - can take time to adjust to union.
**richp:
I don't agree with selection of Ferris at all - from what I've seen of him playing for Ulster and Ireland he doesn't offer much in the way of variety.
We now have 6 back rows who at a push could each play any of the positions which is great but I would have liked to see one of two specialists going - either Heaslip as specialist 8 who offers something different to Leamy or Gleeson because he is an out and out 7 which to be honest I think we are gonna need vs. McCaw and the All Blacks.
I wouldn't start Gleeson but I would defo have him on the bench to change the game if required - particularly if he has brought Quinlan to cover 2nd row as well and could also accomodate him on the bench.
**cyberbuli:
If Boss is a Kiwi how come he is playing for Ireland? Some granny rule like in soccer?
**mark_g:
Under IRB rules, anyone can declare to play for any nation as long as they:
a) Have never represented another nation at senior level
b) Have been resident in their host nation for at least 5 years

Seriously bad hair day for Boss against Scotland. What was that? A rasta mullet?

What's your opinion on the Irish World Cup squad? Can they go all the way?
