hotpress.com members update: "I get so tired of seeing my students mooning me with their sagging pants"
31 May 2007

Good day fine readers, we trust this day is treating you well. Here's hoping the recent political upset (or lack thereof) hasn't affected you too badly. Congrats if your chosen party was victorious, sympathy to the less fortunate. McDowell voters, better luck next time!
Oh wait...

But on to less topical topics:

"Angel, you know it's not the end
We'll always be good friends
The letters have been sent on"

...was last week's mysterious lyric as guessed by Lithium, and now perhaps a fitting song for upset politicians (although 'angel' is probably a tad overly-affectionate). It was of course the wonderfully upsetting Smashing Pumpkins with '90s hit 'Perfect'.

Now: concentrate, focus, and figure out this tough little nut:

"She was a really cool kisser
And she wasn't all that strict of a Christian.
She was a damn good dancer
But she wasn't all that great of a girlfriend."

Who's this morally lax rocker? Vote now! (Or just hit reply)

The summer festival season kicks off this weekend in Kilkenny with the Smithwick's Cat Laughs Comedy Festival. As long-time favourites like Tommy Tiernan and Dara O'Briain wait to entertain the masses, we at hotpress.com thought we'd warm you up with a little taste of what's to come.

Our Favourite Postings From The Dank Bathroom Wall / Personal Advert Column / Huge Throbbing Collective Brain That Is The World Famous hotpress.com Messageboard...

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE KIDS THESE DAYS

**demon:
Round my way young fellas are wearing their school trousers tucked into white socks with runners. Where tha hell does this come from??

**randumpunter:
Yeah I've seen that as well...and the lads have their hair shaved at the side and spikey on top with those cheap-as-fuck diamond studs in each ear. Knacks.

**markf:
Knackers slag rich kids for wearing dubes and sport of kings jerseys. They should look at themselves first. That haircut is crazy.

**vumpireofkid:
I wear Dubes.

**evil_giraffe:
I suppose when you have to wear a uniform shoes and hair are the only things you've left to play with. In our school we weren't even allowed to wear runners, or any shoes that weren't black.....so we used to pick threads out of our ties to make them stripy...in a different way to the way they already were.
....it's a bit like Banksys manifesto about the newly freed concentration camp prisoners who were delighted to get their hands on lipstick.
Of course if their all doing it they're not really trying to assert their individualism they're just trying to be the same as each other in a different way. Ah kids are stupid. So are adults though.
I'm not arguing against uniforms by the way.

**wooly:
Can anyone post a picture of this trousers-tucked-into-white-socks fad? This I gotta see!

**gfunk:
Just hang around James' street for a while, you'll probably see a few. I think Cristiano Ronaldo is the style icon here.

**tornaxx:
My school uniform was navy trousers, navy jumper and light blue shirt. I never wore the shirt.
Not that I was a rebel or owt. I was always really quiet, and did well in exams. But back then, I never wore shirts.

**e.hargan:
I would love to see it too...sounds better than the trend with kids here...I get so tired of seeing my students mooning me with their sagging pants...how do they even walk? I think it's to glorify thugs but thugs can't dress like that or else they wouldn't be able to run from the po-po

*******post of the week: 'cause Morrissey would be proud*********

**igor
The kids that's goin' these days have it easy!
Not like when I was a youngfeller...
Ah yes, I have many happy memories of getting the living shit kicked out of me on a routinely daily basis just for being one of a few Smiths fans in a small town in the west of Ireland.
There I'd be, on my way to school... hair gelled into an impressive quiff, bumfluff sideburns, my school uniform trousers taken in (by my old Mammy's sewing machine) to create the "drainpipe" look... and my old reliable suede crepe soled shoes.
Suddenly they'd be upon me... the metal heads!! With their leather jackes underneath their sleeveless denim jackets and barely 23 brain cells between the five of them. One of these morons wore a denim jacket for the five years of secondary school on which he had written and painstakingly coloured in (with marker) on the back "AC/DC FOR THOES ABOUT TO ROCK"... For fuck's sake lads!
Ah yes, the young fellers that's going now have it easy alright!

*******end post of the week*********

**demon:
Hang around Fairview for the tucked in effect. These knacks are very metrosexual.

[conversation continues with mild prejudice and insults...]
