What's another year?
Just watched the cats decimate Tipp. Look out Galway. Ye may prepare a way of producing TWO flashes in the pan in one season!

What a game! You know you just can't be bitter about Kilkenny beating the crap about of your own when they just came out and went hell for leather in second half. They never take foot off the gas and make so much from every ball. Fair play KK, but I would love to see Galway stir it up all the same.

Well, it does have the makings of a great final. Galway put one over on Kilkenny when they met in 'Leinster' – they'll want to prove that was the natural order, while Kilkenny will be out to demolish them so that there is no doubt about their superiority. Should be fearsome stuff...

I have to admit, I thought that this was finally the end of a golden era - guess not.

The thing about Kilkenny is that lots of teams can stay with them score for score for 60 - 65 minutes of a game but they consistently have a 5-10 minute period - usually at the end of the second half - in which they'll score 3-4 without reply and typically thats the winning margin at the end.

Frightening stuff - they'll beat Galway by 10 or more I reckon. As another poster suggested - you'll never catch them cold twice in a championship season....

of course I meant start of the 2nd half there....

I don't know, you'd worry for them that so much went right in that second half yesterday that it can't again.
But jesus that's some score to put on the pretenders to the throne.

Jaysus.

That's what it's supposed to be like.

This no extra-time thing is a bit of a farce.
 From : richp Posted : 10/09/12 at 10:41
All about the money really. GAA refs seem to be encouraged to blow a match up if its a draw in injury time.

Another serious gate for the GAA. If they want to show some class they should either make the tickets half the usual price or offer the proceeds to charity - or both.

The decision as to whether or not extra time would be played in the event of a draw would have been made by “Central Competitions Control Committee”. This committee has two delegates from each province sitting on it. These delegates would have been elected by representatives from each club in the respective provinces. They receive no financial reward for sitting on this committee beyond modest travel expenses.

In arriving at the decision that extra time would not be played they’d certainly have been influenced by the financial benefits that would come with any replay. €5 million Euro’s a lot of money and a huge amount of it will be distributed to the clubs that elected the representatives that made the decision. It’ll be used for stuff like improving facilities and insuring players.

I get another day out in Croker and the players get a chance to put on a show like they did yesterday again.

There are lots of things in this country that are farcical but the All Ireland Hurling final is not one of them.

The decision as to whether or not the prices will be reduce will be made by the Central Management Committee. Members of this comittee are appointed in a similar manner. One member of this committee is a full time paid role, the president of the GAA.

In arriving at their decision they will take into account the wishes all members of the GAA. I think it is likely that they will reduce the price.

I'll go whatever they charge.

James Skehill's save though. Fuckin' hell. Hero.

http://thescore.thejournal.ie/hurling-final-ticket-prices-5 90643-Sep2012/?utm_source=twitter_self

"The GAA confirmed that ticket prices will be reduced by almost 40% for the replay, fixed for 30 September after the sides played out the first drawn final since 1959 in Croke Park on Sunday.

In a move sure to be welcomed by supporters, stand tickets will cost €50 — down from €80 — while terrace tickets are now priced at €25 — down from €40.

The GAA also expects to sell more than 5,000 children’s tickets, available at a cost of €10 for designated areas of the stadium."

It was a phenomenal game and as good a statement as you could fashion about the greatness of hurling as a sport – and as a spectacle. It is so far ahead of gaelic football. There were loads of heroes but Henry Shefflin in particular was immense...

I'm not a huge Gaelic Football fan but Donegal v Mayo next weekend is gonna be special too.
 From : evil_giraffe Posted : 10/09/12 at 13:52
The weekend after next I mean. There'll be no keeping those yahoos off the pitch afterwards.

Nice touch from the GAA - judging the public mood correctly and cementing their status as a community foccused organisation.

FAI - take note.

Great match. It is not often we are held goal-less but we do score a clatter of points to compensate. Good minor match too. Dublin hurling is looking good for the future.

Was it after that, he lay down on the ball? I wouldn't blame him if he did!
