It was grand here this morning as I cycled to work, except a bit windy. After pouring rain for most of the day, the roads were actually dry on my journey home, probably because of the wind and temperature.

An umbrella turned inside out was the worst of it! I think they feel that if they don't issue dire warnings then there mightbe criticism after the fact if the rain is very bad.

Still a strong wind around, so it might blow up again...

there's a decent wind all right, but jesus the way they were talking you'd swear it was the second coming of the Armageddon.

The second coming has to do with Jesus H.Christ, not Armageddon! But they did overstate it a bit alright!

I was looking up about this (I'm a bit of a weather nerd) and seemingly what happened was,
In the UK media they said "some places might get up to a month and half's rain"
Now, that was actually based on a forecast of up to 45mm rain, which someone translated into the above. Some months could only have 30mm of rain, but most average between 55-70 in dublin airport (nearly twice that in the west)
Anyway, someone in RTE then got all in a tizzy about it, there was a WEATHER WARNING issued by the Met Office, but it was a YELLOW warning (they issue Yellow - which is cautionary but no special perperation needed, Amber - which is cautionary and potentially damage causing and Red - which is "Will cause damage to properties/trees so batten down the hatches and don't travel unless essential") meaning that nobody needed to anything about it, but someone read it as a confirmation that there was some impending event.
Anway, by all accounts the met office have never experienced such abuse for getting it right!
