the golf
I always like watching the Irish Open - but this year it seems like the quality of field is WAY down with the exception of the Irish golfers. Now of course the Irish golfers are 2 of the worlds top 20 and 2 more recent major winners.

Everyone else seems to think it's a brilliant field – but looking at it you might have a point. No Lee Westwood, no Luke Donald, no Sergio Garcia, no Bubba Watson, no Justin Rose. Is there any quality American apart from Jon Daly? Makes it all the more important that there is an Irish winner. Would be right and fitting if it was the occasion for the return of Pádraig Harrington to the winners podium...

That Brandon Grace is a bit of a joker....

biggest yank is bradley keegan who did win the USPGA last year, but yeah the quality of the field is definitely only ok. There's only 19 of the worlds top 100 in it. Take away the 4 Irish lads in the top 100 and it's 15 of the top 96 - that's less then a sixth of them.

If you compare that to (say) the PGA @ Wentworth there was almost 40 of the top 100.

well at least podge harrington is giving it a good go - -9 at the moment with 4 holes to play today and looking likely to be within a shot or two of the lead heading towards the weekend.

Was up at Portrush during the week. Took a stroll into that Pro Am. Watched Bill Murray play golf for a bit. The man is a hero and a genius. Animated and hillarious.

Well, the Irish came up short - as they say. What are Harrington's odds for the British Open?

16/1 on paddy power 23/1 on betfair - ie; Not enough of an outsider to back really.

I'd be thinking Graeme McDowell at 43/1 on betfair might be worth a punt.
