Trap Out
I know that there's a few football threads already, but I thought I'd get this band wagon rolling. The limitations of his tactical thinking and motivational powers have been cruelly exposed. The thought of him leading us into a World Cup campaign is deeply depressing...

I said WHO ?
give me actual targets that you'd prefer to trap. Cause I don't see them.

sorry and I'll say this.

I don't want Harry Redknapp as manager in a million years. (not that I think he'd take it).
Although those people out there who want Robbie Keane to swan off into the sunset would probably be pleased as he'd definitely retire then I'd say.

I wasn't going to suggest Redknapp in a million years. International managers are funny, in that everyone thinks
Hmmm you need someone with international experience, yet most of the best international managers (or at least most of the ones who've one trophies) - never managed an international team before the one they're managing.

In 2/3 years time Chris Hughton may be an obvious candidate, he wouldn't leave Norwich now having only just joined.

Mick McCarthy's looking for a gig I hear!
 From : number10 Posted : 04/07/12 at 17:36
You coulddoworse than McCarthy.

There've been more than a few 'second-time-arounds' in the international arena...

I wouldnt touch mccarthy, you might as well keep trap.
 From : tricky Posted : 04/07/12 at 23:20
I was joking slightly Dave - who would you go for though?
 From : davidlynch Posted : 05/07/12 at 00:52
International football management is made for someone like del bosque an old hand.

Obviously with it been The Republic of Ireland you are not going to get a top manager and certainly not one flying high, so you are left with the also rans.

Certainly a Manager who knows the English/scottish game well and not one who watches matches on dvds like trapatonni, someone who can inspire to get the best out of the limited resources we have.

Martin O`Neill would have been ideal but I dont see him been available in a years time when trap will get the boot, Chris Hughton could be one for 15 years time.

Redknapp would be good with a point to prove to England and an ability to get a few uk born players to declare.

David o`Leary a smashing player is another who i`d consider,he did very well at Leeds and initially at villa and wouldnt have any money to spend and is available.

Sometimes as in life timing is essential, you never know who might become available when there is a vacany that might be interested.

O'Leary's a funny one isn't he. 10/11 years ago you'd have loved to see him being considered - and you'd have reckoned that now would be about the right time. So did he!!!

"You're constantly being talked about as a future Ireland manager. Do you want the job?

Yes, without a doubt. But not for a long time yet. Maybe when I get to about 50, or something like that. I'd love to manage my country when I finish club football, but first I want to establish Leeds as one of the top two or three teams in the Premiership, and win things."

You can never tell in life so far ahead that the moral of the story.

I`m sure he would be interested now..
 From : tricky Posted : 06/07/12 at 13:16
David, that's one of the few times I can say that I 100% agree with you.
 From : number10 Posted : 07/07/12 at 19:55
A lot o people hate David O'Leary. I'm not quite sure why they feel so strongly...
 From : davidlynch Posted : 08/07/12 at 01:42
He did spent a lot of money at Leeds in the end but risdale was more to blame for that.
 From : tricky Posted : 08/07/12 at 12:27
well he was a bit creepy with the whole "my babies" thing and then Villa was a real disappointment in that it looked he was going to do a lot.
Tony Cascarino REALLY doesn't like him.
 From : tornaxx Posted : 08/07/12 at 16:38
If Tony Cascarino doesn't like him, I don't like him.
 From : number10 Posted : 09/07/12 at 13:50
Tony Cascarino is the guy in ridiculous looking jocks on bus shelter ads, right? And people give what he has to say a bit of credence? Mother of divine jaysus...
 From : tricky Posted : 09/07/12 at 13:59
I think it's fair to say as long as there's a few quid in it Tony will do it. I Don't think he's a reason not to get O'Leary as a manager.
 From : triumph Posted : 09/07/12 at 15:56
can I honestly say, that I'd be more then happy with O'Leary. It's a pity that none of the 2002 squad have successfully gone into management, as they'd be ideally placed now to come on board.
 From : tricky Posted : 09/07/12 at 16:34
yeah there's been a bit of a dearth of Irish internationals becoming managers. Of course Brendan Rogers and Brian McDermott are probably good bets for a few years time (or at least they are at the moment!)
 From : number10 Posted : 10/07/12 at 15:19
I still think Roy Keane could become a great manager. He's clearly not right for Ireland at the moment either way - but he has the mettle if he can get to grips with the combustible side of his personality...
 From : ttemme Posted : 21/07/12 at 12:09
trap out, trap out, trap out. cam one of them gimps what did a football single for euro 2012 turn that into a song, maybe? they might have a s'rprise hit on their paws. sort of a we're all leavin' trappie's army kinda buzz...
