I hear both sides.
They're good role models for kids, they promote anti-drugs and anti-bullying campaigns, they're just a bit of fun. And that's fine.
But I just read a forum that showed how many radio shows they were on in the last week - at the expense of people with genuine talent - having stupid clothes, stupid hair, singing stupid songs in poor pitch, stupid cartwheels, stupid 20 year olds acting like 9 year olds
That these fuckwits are still coining it is pretty nauseating and that our national broadcaster has peddled their shite repeatedly across all platforms for a while now pisses me off. They have their place but they passed saturation point yonks ago.

Sometimes I think that maybe they are actually evil geniuses - very sensible fellas (possibly invented by the KLF) who are carrying out an elaborate experiment to demonstrate that how in today's culture, its possible to become very famous and rich without having any talent for anything in particular.
And to do it by being asexual and non threatening - as sort of the anti Pete Doherty / Amy Winehouse types.
Then I think that they are probably just moron's who are being exploited and paid about 1% of the money they generate.
Either way, surely in about 5 years their time will be up and we'll have tabloid headlines of "Jedward - our coke and hookers hell" and the like.

Moving money from dumb people to smart people prevents the dumb people doing dangerous stuff with it. I'm all for it.
For bonus "Taking money off dumb people" points, get internet music experts to advertise your product for free (Phil Lynott's corpse was exchanged for similar publicity) .
Maybe sell them an "I hate Jedward!" badge or even an Ironic "I love Jedward!" t-shirt. (Ironic t-shirts can be identified by the M, L or XL on the label...to compound the irony you can charge more for larger t-shirts!).
Taking money off internet music experts helps prevent nostalgia tours of bands these same experts would have derided as "Over rated" had they not been listening to whatever the 80s version of Jedward was at the time
Chancers. Getting away with it. Fair play to them.

And they're not competing with "Serious artists".
If you're listening to a radio show and Jedward come on, they are filling space that would just be filled with some other shite if they weren't around.
....that is of course unless they're filling the space ironically...
....in which case, who's to say what they're doing isn't serious art?

Also, by intentionally not winning the Eurovision, Jedward have saved RTE tens of millions.
A portion of this money will be invested in "Serious artist" shows that none of us will watch.
(A larger portion will be paid in libel damages to a priest in East Galway)
Jedward, single handedly saving the music industry in Ireland.

What absolute twaddle - of course they are competing with real artists as they take valuable airspace away from them.
Why should daytime radio be full of rubbish like jedward and genuine original artists reduced to late night slots midweek when most people are in bed?
Take S .Kennedys Nighthawks club, most of the bands playing in it over a year get as much airplay as Jedwards rubbish do in a week and most have to call it a day or do it as a hobby not because they are not good enough but because they get little exsposure.

It was love at first sight, wasn't it. Between you two...
Evil was being amusing, david.
I kinda agree. Jadward are irrelevant to Leonard Cohen..

| Hold on a second, if it wasn't Jedward on air, it wouldn't exactly be Django Django that we'd hear instead. It'd be some other manufactured act that are trying to persuade us that they're "authentic". At least with Jedward everyone knows they're a pair of useless chancers that can't sing or dance, including Jedward. It's just a bit of useless fun for kids, without any pretense. And that's why I like the two fuckwits.

| It doesn't matter what I think. Radio stations knows what the general public likes to listen to during the day and it's popular hits and stuff we know and not yer weird music with the funny sounding singer and the no choruses thankyouverymuch. Sigur Ros just ain't gonna be played at 2pm on most radio stations.

| And why is it "twaddle" that obscure music does not get played on mainstream radio stations at 2pm?

| snapshot's right to some degree, you can't imagine that Jedward are 'stealing airplay' from someone more worthy of it. I do think that Radio Stations are victims of their own insecurity, but that's the radio stations fault rather then the people who made the record.

Nobody mentioned anything about "obscure" music or indeed sigur ros except you! You have just thrown them into the mix for your own reasons!
There are a million and one Irish and other bands between Jedward and sigur ros which could be played on daytime radio quite easily and that are not manufactured or a gimmick like jedward.

| As long as you're not bumping Jedward that's fine by me. Getting into the sack with those two lads would be very distracting - even if you were a woman.
